istock_9What is the AUC's"Discover Scuba Program for Schools/Youths"?

This "Discover Scuba School Program" is designed as an introductory session of the rapidly growing activity of Scuba Diving for Alberta school/youth groups. During these pool sessions (usually arranged by teachers/group leaders) the students will learn the basic techniques of Scuba Diving and will throughly enjoy their hands-on scuba experience  in a local pool. This exciting program has been used to enrich the physical education program curriculum in schools from all regions in the province of Alberta for 20 years now with safe participation of nearly 20,000 students.

Who Can Participate?

Anyone who is in good health from the age of twelve and up. Participants will automatically become student members of the "Alberta Underwater Council" and each will receive a "Discover Scuba Participant" certificate. Students, and their parents and/or guardians with any health related questions/concerns are encouraged to contact our office, the instructor and/or also consult with their family physician.

What equipment is needed?  NONE!

The Alberta Underwater Council with the support of ASRPF Foundation & Lottery Funds provides a qualified & insured scuba instructor, plus all of the necessary scuba gear to your nearest pool facility.

How Do I Book a Pool!

This is fast becoming the most tricky part - as most community, rural or city pools are getting very booked up, very quickly, very early in the school year!  So check your possible dates right away and then book your local pool as early as possible!  After that please phone or email our Instructor to check his schedule & make a tentative date with him as soon as possible.

For groups between 10-14 participants, 1 1/2 hours of pool is needed, for groups of 15-20 book at least two hours of pool time.

Larger groups can also be accommodated.  Please contact our Instructor: Carson Ganci directly for his assistance with the logistics required to meet your class or group's needs..

How Much Does it Cost? $30.00 per participant (Inc. GST).

This includes the insured instructor and the use of all the scuba diving equipment. It does not include transportation costs to or the pool rental required.  Due to rapidly rising fuel costs - a fuel surcharge or a minimum number of students may be required, depending on your location in the province of Alberta.  Please contact our instructor: Carson Ganci directly (see below). This is a cost recovery fee only charged to the schools to help maintain this program for future students.

Are There Any Forms I Need to Complete?

You'll need to esnure that a Discover Scuba Waiver/Liability Form (2 pages) is to be filled out and signed by each student participant and their parent/guardian prior to the event. Students, and their parents and/or guardians with any health related questions/concerns are encouraged to contact our office, the instructor and/or also consult with their family physician. Teachers/Organizers: please give these completed forms to the Instructor at the event.

Please download the "Bubble-Maker" Liability form. Or phone the AUC office for the form to be forwarded to you by fax or email.

Helpful Hint: As your local pool facility is likely very busy, it would be advisable to tentatively book your preferred pool times right away, then contact our Scuba Instructor: Carson Ganci, directionly to check his schedule.
