SORRY - this event was officially postponed from its usual July date until Aug 22nd - due to the excessive rain received the week of July 12-18th making for very poor river conditons! All other details remain the same but with this new date!
Have you ever wanted to snorkel down the Bow River??? ………. here’s your chance!
Registration/Waivers: 9:30 am
Safety Briefing: 10:15 am Sharp
Mass Start: 10:30 am
REGISTRATION FEE: $15 pp (includes lunch)
START LOCATION: Bowness Park: main entrance is on the South side of the Bow River near intersection of 88 Street NW and 48 Ave NW. Enter the Park, turn left at first intersection just past the concession building, follow road further into park making a right leading straight to the river and then branching right again (East and downriver) to the Start point. Look for “Dive Flag” road signs marking the direction. See Google map here.
END LOCATION: Edworthy Park North. (Access off Memorial). Park in the lot near Angel's Cafe-the public washroom can be used for changing. Usually there is plenty of parking. See Google map for Edworthy Park here.
LOGISTICS: Event volunteers will assist with a car shuttle back to the entry point if needed. Recommend that you have towel & dry clothes transported to the finish for your own comfort. Travel time estimate: approx. 1 1/2 hours, depending on river flow.
SAFETY: Canoe/kayaks will accompany snorkelers in their journey down the Bow River. Hazards: Rocks & potential river debris. Buddy teams stay in main channel. Do not get close to any Bridge Piling, Boats & Floats or right along the shore line. Fast water - Do not try to stand up if uncomfortable - float feet first on back. Beware of rabid ducks or protective geese. Calgary Fire & Police are alerted to this Bow River Snorkel event. Safety Team will monitor progress & provide assistance if needed.
MANDATORY: Wetsuits or Drysuits, plus Mask/Snorkel/Fins/Boots, optional: Gloves/Hood -contact your local favorite dive store for rentals in advance if needed. Also suggest a Water Bottle w/holster—you do get thirsty snorkeling on a beautiful summer day on the river!

PLEASE RSVP HERE for this event so organizers can arrange for food/prizes/supplies, etc. Just choose the "Off-line Payment" Option & you can pay at the registration table on the day of the event. Don't forget lawn chairs, sun screen, bug spray, etc.

Yes, we know that this is not a "scuba" event but as you have all the gear already (or can rent is easily from your local favourite dive store) - we encourage you to come out & give it a try - as Rhonda-Lee & David (divers from Edmonton) report: "they had a lot of fun at this event for the last 2 yrs now & will try to make it 3 in a row"! The event's organizers, who especially enjoyed participating previously in the Athabasca River Race during the annual Jasper Aquathon event, wanted to offer a similiar fun "snorkel" event in the beautiful Bow River here in Calgary!
So we challenge you to give it a try - it's especially fun and refreshing on a hot summer day & is followed by camradiere, a hot chili lunch & prizes as supplied by local dive stores!
